Fatal Traffic Accidents Claim Two Lives in Hong Kong
On Wednesday, tragedy struck Hong Kong’s roads, resulting in two fatal traffic accidents. The first incident occurred in Wong Tai Sin, where a school bus driver surnamed Choi, 47, was working. As Choi prepared to leave a car park in a housing estate on Hammer Hill Road around 4:11 pm, the school bus reportedly skidded forward, rolling over Choi in the process. Despite being rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital with multiple injuries, Choi later fell unconscious and was certified dead at 9:39 pm.
A source indicated that Choi had attempted to pay for his exit from the parking zone using his Octopus card before falling out of the bus. Police have initiated an investigation and urged anyone with information to contact the Kowloon East special investigation team for traffic at 3661 0264 or 3661 0277.
Hours later, at approximately 6:35 pm, a second fatal accident was reported in Tin Shui Wai. Initial investigations revealed that Yuen, a 67-year-old driver, had parked his container truck on a slope around 2:40 pm. After exiting the vehicle, it began rolling backwards, knocking Yuen over and trapping him between the truck and several water tanks. Yuen sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers from the New Territories north special investigation team for traffic are investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident and have requested that any witnesses contact the police at 3661 3800.
These tragic accidents underscore the importance of road safety and the need for all drivers to exercise caution while operating their vehicles. The Hong Kong Police Force continues to urge the public to report any traffic violations or suspicious activity to the authorities.
