In an effort to tackle traffic congestion and improve commuting conditions, Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced a comprehensive anti-encroachment operation in Karachi. Led by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), the operation will be conducted weekly, targeting areas such as Saddar, Lighthouse, MA Jinnah Road, Bolton Market, II Chandrigar Road, Numaish Chowrangi, Empress Market, and Kharadar. This drive aims to remove illegal encroachments from public spaces, including cabins, stalls, carts, and shops that hinder traffic flow. The operation will commence in South, District East, and then District Central, covering key locations that have been impacted by illegal structures and haphazard parking. Senior Director Imran Rajput will oversee the operation, ensuring its effective implementation and coordination among various departments. The initiative is a crucial step towards reclaiming public spaces and restoring order in Karachi. By eliminating encroachments, the city authorities aim to create a more livable and sustainable environment for its residents, reducing congestion and enhancing traffic flow.
