Odisha police have achieved a major success in their anti-Maoist operations ahead of the upcoming elections. In the early hours of Thursday, they gunned down two Maoists in the Boudh district. The simultaneous assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Odisha are scheduled to be held on May 13, 20, 25, and June 1. Boudh will cast its votes on May 20.
According to ADG (Operations) Dev Datta Singh, a fierce exchange of fire occurred in the Parhel reserve forest within the jurisdiction of the Kantamal police, between Maoists and SOG personnel. “We have successfully seized two bodies of Maoists along with explosives and other suspicious items,” Singh informed.
In the last four months alone, Boudh has witnessed at least seven incidents of gunfire exchange. Both Boudh and the neighboring Kandhamal district have been facing a rise in Maoist-related violence. Earlier, on February 3, a Maoist was killed in the Kandhamal district.
The ongoing anti-Maoist operations and the recent elimination of two Maoists in Boudh are significant steps towards ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the upcoming elections. The Odisha police deserve appreciation for their relentless efforts in combating Maoist activities and maintaining law and order in the region.
