National Weather Service Issues Freeze Warning for Eastern Massachusetts Counties
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for portions of eastern Massachusetts, including Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth counties. The warning is in effect from 12:06 a.m. until 5 a.m. on Thursday.
According to the weather service, sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected during this time. These conditions can pose a threat to crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Residents are advised to take precautions to protect tender plants and prepare for potential freezing conditions.
Freeze warnings are typically issued from May to October when low temperatures are expected to reach 29-32 degrees. If there is a potential for temperatures to fall below these thresholds, a freeze watch may be issued a few days in advance.
If a freeze warning or watch is issued for your area, the weather service recommends taking steps to protect plants. Those who are able to move sensitive plants indoors should do so, as the freeze could potentially kill them. Residents should also protect outdoor plumbing by wrapping exposed pipes with insulation or towels.
