Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has provided an update on the fitness of midfielder Mason Mount ahead of the team’s upcoming match against Burnley on Saturday. Mount has been sidelined with a calf injury and has missed the Red Devils’ last two games.
Ten Hag revealed that Mount is expected to return to action in time to face Burnley, which will be a boost for the team as they look to extend their unbeaten run to five matches.
However, ten Hag also confirmed that there will be no reinforcements in the backline, with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and Willy Kambwala all remaining out injured. This means that Casemiro is likely to continue playing in central defense alongside Harry Maguire.
Ten Hag praised Casemiro’s performance in defense, saying that he offers a “very good” partnership with Maguire and that they are “very stable in and out of possession.”
Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League table, three points clear of Newcastle below them with five matches remaining. They are seven points behind Tottenham, who currently occupy the fifth spot and the Europa League qualification spot.
The Red Devils will be hoping to close the gap on Tottenham and secure a European spot with a win over Burnley on Saturday.
