In January 2024, AMD introduced Fluid Motion Frames, its response to Nvidia’s DLSS 3 technology. This feature targets enhanced frame generation performance, providing a potential boost for devices equipped with integrated graphics cards. Asus has embraced this advancement, releasing an update on April 25, 2024, which brings AMD Fluid Motion Frames to the ROG Ally iGPU.
Following the installation of the graphics card and Armoury Crate SE update, ROG Ally users will access information about Fluid Motion Frames through the app’s real-time game monitor. A significant advantage of AMD Fluid Motion Frames is its integration within the driver, eliminating the onus on game developers to incorporate support for enhanced performance.
While the performance impact of Fluid Motion Frames remains to be quantified as the update is still being rolled out, the technology exhibits promise on paper. AMD advises leveraging Fluid Motion Frames in games where you are already achieving 60 fps, although the feature remains functional across all games, regardless of the frame rate achieved without its activation.
