Philadelphia 76ers guard Kelly Oubre Jr. was reportedly involved in a car accident in the early hours of Tuesday morning, shortly after the team’s 104-101 defeat to the New York Knicks in the 2024 NBA playoffs. According to the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred at approximately 1:45 AM when Oubre allegedly disregarded a red traffic signal and struck another vehicle.
Initial reports indicate that Oubre was driving his 2021 matte purple Lamborghini when he collided with a 2023 Hyundai Elantra. Both vehicles sustained damage and were towed from the scene. It is unclear if either vehicle had any passengers at the time of the crash.
There were no reported injuries to either Oubre or the other driver involved in the collision. The Philadelphia 76ers have not yet issued a public statement regarding the incident. Sources close to the situation, however, have confirmed that Oubre is expected to remain in the lineup and continue playing with the team despite the accident.
The extent of the damage to the vehicles is not yet known, but Oubre’s Lamborghini is reportedly a luxury sports car that he has featured in a photoshoot for GQ magazine. In a 2022 interview, Oubre expressed his passion for cars, stating, “Once I got my driver’s license, I was much more interested in cars than the ability to drive. I’ve always felt pretty comfortable in nice cars.”
The Philadelphia 76ers are scheduled to face the New York Knicks in Game 3 of their playoff series on Thursday night in Philadelphia. It remains to be seen whether Oubre’s involvement in the car accident will affect his availability for the game.
