Congress General Secretary Sachin Pilot has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of running a negative campaign rather than engaging in a debate on issues, policies, and governance structures. He claims that the Congress is talking about equitable growth while the BJP has resorted to fear-mongering and lies.
Pilot’s remarks come after the first two rounds of polling in the 2024 general elections. He claims that the change in tone and tenor of BJP leaders indicates that the first two phases of polling have not gone their way and that Congress and INDIA bloc candidates are certainly ahead.
The Congress leader also addressed the issue of low voter turnout in the first two phases of polling. He said that it could be due to the BJP’s famed booth management coming undone or a lack of energy and enthusiasm in the BJP vote base to re-elect the same government to power.
Pilot also discussed the Congress’ manifesto, which has been more in the news than the BJP’s manifesto. He said that the intent of the Congress manifesto is clear and that the BJP’s lies about it show their desperation.
The Congress leader also addressed the party’s demand for a caste census. He said that it is aimed at providing an effective tool to frame better policies and that the government is functioning on ad hoc numbers.
Pilot also accused the BJP of fear-mongering, saying that they are talking about things that are purely imaginative and running a negative campaign. He said that the BJP has been using four Ms to attack the Opposition — Meat, Mughals, Maoists, and Mangalsutra.
The Congress leader also criticized the BJP’s performance in the last 10 years, saying that they made promises but are now canvassing votes on the basis of emotive issues.
