In an increasingly common occurrence, a dispute over pet dogs led to a deadly confrontation in Rajasthan. A 45-year-old man, Ramraj Meghwal, was beaten to death by his neighbors, Bhagwan Mali and Rakesh Mali, following a scuffle over their respective dogs. The incident unfolded in a village within the Kota district of the state.
The Meghwal family had been embroiled in a prolonged dispute with their neighbors, the Mali brothers, specifically over the latter’s pet dogs. According to the Meghwals, the Mali brothers would often release their dogs, causing fear among the Meghwal children as they left for school. The situation escalated on the fateful day when Bhagwan and Rakesh Mali allegedly attacked Ramraj Meghwal with sticks and iron rods, inflicting critical injuries.
Despite being promptly rushed to the nearest hospital, Ramraj Meghwal’s injuries proved fatal, and he succumbed during the course of treatment. The Tathed police station swiftly intervened, apprehending Bhagwan and Rakesh Mali. A case has been registered against them based on the complaint filed by the victim’s family members. Deputy Superintendent of Police Beni Prasad confirmed the arrests and stated that the accused are currently being interrogated. The deceased’s body was handed over to his family after the completion of post-mortem procedures.
In a related development, the Supreme Court has made significant observations during a hearing on Wednesday concerning the issue of street dogs. While acknowledging that they are not hesitant to issue an order on the matter, the court emphasized the need to maintain a narrow focus on the subject at hand. The Supreme Court is currently reviewing numerous petitions, including proposals for population control measures similar to those implemented in Kerala, as well as pleas for protection and welfare initiatives such as feeding programs, shelter homes, and maintenance expenses.
