Beginning May 1, 2024, and continuing through November 2024, a portion of Miami International Airport (MIA) will undergo construction, impacting traffic flow and parking availability.
The lower drive, which spans from concourses G to J (Doors 20 to 33), will be narrowed to three lanes to accommodate the ongoing construction of the Flamingo Parking Garage extension. While taxi lanes will remain unaffected, hotel shuttles will now operate from the departures level.
Travelers are advised to plan accordingly and expect delays. To ensure a seamless traffic flow, dedicated Miami-Dade Aviation Department officers will be present onsite to assist airport patrons.
The Flamingo garage extension, a $136 million project, will add 2,240 parking spaces across seven levels to MIA’s existing Flamingo garage. The new garage is slated for completion by summer 2026 and will feature 50 electric vehicle charging stations, energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures, and a Parksmart Silver Certification design, aligning with sustainable practices.
This expansion project is part of MIA’s $7 billion capital enhancements and $1.7 billion maintenance upgrades, which aim to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and capacity. As the primary gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean, MIA serves as a vital economic hub for Miami-Dade County and Florida, contributing $31.9 billion in business revenue annually and hosting approximately 60 percent of all international visitors to the state.
