South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Baise City’s Youjiang District were abuzz with festivities as they celebrated the Sanyuesan Festival, a cherished event among the Zhuang ethnic community. The festival, which marks the third day of the third lunar month, fell on April 11 this year.
In Bandao Park, a vibrant mountain song singing competition unfolded, with locals adorned in traditional attire and reveling in traditional pastimes. Simultaneously, Youjiang District hosted a captivating food exhibition featuring delicacies like five-color glutinous rice and Jiaoye Ci, a glutinous rice cake wrapped in banana leaves, highlighting the area’s intangible cultural treasures.
Cultural and creative product exhibitions, ethnic costume displays, and a showcase of Baise’s ethnic wedding customs and local specialties further enriched the celebrations. Food enthusiasts flocked to the night market at Wanjingcheng food street, where stalls offered famous five-color glutinous rice alongside barbecues, indigenous desserts, and pickled fruits, complemented by captivating performances and ethnic attire.
A range of events including original song and street dance competitions, ethnic sports, traditional folk culture showcases, hands-on experiences, cultural tourism promotions, and exhibitions of Baise’s agricultural and forestry products added depth to the festivities at the beach park in Youjiang, making the Sanyuesan Festival a truly memorable celebration of culture and community.
