Bomb threat emails sent to numerous schools in the Delhi-NCR region on Wednesday have been deemed likely hoaxes by Delhi Fire Services (DFS) Director Atul Garg. Approximately 80 schools in Delhi and additional schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) received these emails, which were traced back to Russia with the domain name ‘mail.ru’.
Garg stated, “We received over 80 calls in Delhi alone. There were bomb threat calls, and we responded to each one, dispatching fire tenders to all the locations. However, some schools have started returning their vehicles. I believe these calls will likely turn out to be hoaxes.”
Amidst the panic, several schools remained closed, sending students home. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena vowed that the perpetrators would face severe consequences for disrupting peace and harmony. Police, along with bomb squads and fire brigade teams, are actively investigating the incident.
Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa confirmed that investigations have not uncovered any suspicious items at the schools. “It appears that someone intended to create panic… I urge parents to remain calm. We are thoroughly investigating the matter,” Nalwa said.
Security in the national capital has been enhanced, with a general advisory issued in the Delhi Metro network and CISF personnel instructed to maintain heightened vigilance. Delhi Education Minister Atishi emphasized that no bombs, explosives, weapons, or other threats to children’s safety were discovered. “I am hopeful that the Delhi Police’s cyber cell will trace the email source as soon as possible.”
