Qantas App Glitch Exposes Passengers’ Personal Data
A major glitch in the Qantas app exposed the personal details of thousands of customers on Wednesday, causing widespread concern and prompting the airline to recommend logging out and back into their accounts. The issue, which has since been resolved, allowed frequent flyers to view other passengers’ names, flight plans, points, and boarding passes on the app.
Many frequent fliers took to social media to express their shock and concern about the breach, with some posting screenshots of the exposed information. One user wrote on Twitter, “Hey @Qantas, I’m pretty sure whatever app issue this warning is about is not entirely resolved because every time I refresh I’ve got someone else’s name, point balance, and status…”
Qantas has apologized for the incident and said that it is investigating the cause of the glitch. The airline has also advised customers to log out and log back into their Frequent Flyer accounts on the Qantas App.
The glitch is the latest in a series of cyber attacks that have raised concerns about the protection of Australians’ personal data. In November 2022, Australia’s largest private health insurer Medibank said hackers had accessed the data of 9.7 million current and former customers, including medical records.
