In the ongoing efforts to combat illegal immigration, Border Patrol agents stationed in the El Paso Sector have been actively apprehending individuals attempting to cross the border illegally. Fox News Digital accompanied these agents on patrol, witnessing firsthand their efforts to secure the nation’s border. Among those apprehended were three convicted child sex offenders, arrested over the weekend in Texas.
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens announced that the arrests were made in Eagle Pass, Rio Grande City, and Cotulla, emphasizing that the individuals had prior felony convictions for “Indecency w/ child Sexual contact.” These offenders will face prosecution and removal from the United States, their identities remaining undisclosed at this time.
This incident adds to the growing number of sex offenders apprehended at or near the border, including an earlier arrest of a convicted offender who carried firearms in schools. Statistics indicate a concerning rise in criminal noncitizen arrests this fiscal year, with over 8,700 apprehended so far, including 119 sex offenders.
The ongoing crisis at the southern border has raised concerns among law enforcement and lawmakers, who believe it has facilitated the entry of criminals, including those seeking to evade Border Patrol agents as “gotaways.” The situation is part of a broader migrant crisis that has significantly impacted the United States for over four years.
In fiscal year 2023, there were over 2.4 million migrant encounters, and so far this fiscal year, over 1.3 million encounters have been recorded up until the end of March.
The Biden administration has called on Congress to provide additional funding and implement comprehensive immigration reform to address the “broken” system, while Republicans have urged the administration to reverse its policies and reinstate Trump-era measures that they believe effectively addressed the border crisis.
