Ecuadorian Beauty Queen and Social Media Influencer Shot Dead After Revealing Location on Instagram
Landy Parraga Goyburo, a 23-year-old Ecuadorian beauty queen and social media influencer, was shot dead at a restaurant in Quevedo City on April 28. The shocking incident occurred after Goyburo posted an Instagram story revealing her location while enjoying octopus ceviche for lunch.
According to newspaper reports, Goyburo was suspected of having an affair with a drug trafficker who died in a prison riot over a year ago. Police suspect that his widow may have ordered her murder. Goyburo’s name had also appeared in a corruption enquiry linking judicial officials to organized crime.
The incident was caught on CCTV, where Goyburo could be seen speaking with a man at the restaurant. Soon two gunmen approached, one standing near the entrance and the second running towards her. The gunman reportedly shot Goyburo three times before fleeing the scene. Goyburo died at the scene itself.
Experts caution against sharing real-time location information on Instagram, as it can pose safety risks. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network recommends waiting until after leaving a location to tag it on social media. The University of Pittsburgh’s IT department also urges individuals to keep personal information private to reduce the risk of identity theft and other crimes.
The incident has raised concerns about the dangers of sharing personal information online and the importance of practicing caution when using social media.
