Bullets Rip Through Edmonton Neighbourhood Homes in Targeted Shooting

Residents of Edmonton’s Ellerslie neighbourhood were left on edge Monday evening after bullets pierced through several homes in a targeted shooting.

The incident unfolded around 6:40 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the vicinity of 86th Street and 6th Avenue Southwest. According to witnesses, a barrage of gunshots erupted between two vehicles, sending panicked residents scrambling for cover.

One woman recounted hearing a deafening volley of at least 13 gunshots starting around 6:30 p.m. Several eyewitnesses reported seeing a man tumbling out of a vehicle in the alleyway and desperately calling for help.

Amid the chaos, two individuals were apprehended by law enforcement, with one being transported to the hospital for treatment of gunshot injuries. Investigators suspect that the shooting was premeditated and that additional individuals may have been involved. The investigation remains ongoing, with police actively seeking any available security footage.

The brazen attack has left residents shaken and concerned for their safety. Miko Gallardo, whose home was struck by a bullet that shattered a bedroom window, expressed his disbelief. “It was the shock,” he said, emphasizing the rarity of such violence in their neighbourhood. “If it’s happening in your house, it’s a different story.”

Gallardo’s grandmother, who resides with him, was deeply shaken by the ordeal. “The first half an hour, she was quite in shock,” he said. “It’s bad. I’m trying to console her. It’s traumatizing for her.”

The shooting has cast a pall over the once-tranquil neighbourhood, leaving residents feeling vulnerable and apprehensive. “When the house with gunshots is yours, it’s pretty scary,” Gallardo remarked. “It hasn’t happened before… All of a sudden, police just knocked on our door… We didn’t expect a shooting around this neighbourhood.”

The Edmonton Police Service urges anyone with information about the incident to contact them. The investigation is ongoing and further updates are expected as they become available.
