The defense team for former President Trump is seeking a mistrial following testimony by pornographic actress Stormy Daniels in his criminal trial in Manhattan. Attorney Todd Blanche argued that Daniels’ testimony, which included details of an alleged consensual sexual encounter with Trump in 2016, was prejudicial and intended to inflame the jury.
Daniels’ testimony, he claimed, focused on issues of consent and danger, which were not part of her previous account of the incident in 2016. He added that the defense had objected to her testimony but was unable to prevent her from stating certain things.
Prosecutor Susan Hoffinger, however, maintained that the testimony was relevant to the case and that the defense had been fully aware of its content before the trial. She accused the defense of attacking Daniels’ credibility without any basis.
During a court break, Trump took to his Truth Social account to express his dissatisfaction with the prosecution, claiming they had gone too far and demanding a mistrial. Judge Juan Merchan, however, denied the request for a mistrial, stating that he was taking measures to control the testimony.
The trial is ongoing, and the defense is expected to continue presenting its case. The outcome of the motion for a mistrial remains uncertain.
