To enable the hands-free trunk feature, Tesla owners simply need to open the Tesla app, navigate to Vehicle settings, select Locks, and activate Hands-Free Trunk. Additionally, ensuring that Nearby Interactions are enabled for the Tesla app in the phone’s settings is crucial.
The hands-free trunk operation requires the vehicle key to be in close proximity to the car, preventing accidental or unauthorized opening. To activate the system, owners must stand behind the vehicle for a moment and listen for three beeps, indicating that the trunk is about to open. If the owner moves away during the beeping sequence, the procedure is canceled, and the trunk remains closed.
