Edmonton Man Facing Sentencing for Second-Degree Murder of 7-Year-Old Girl

An Edmonton man convicted of murdering a seven-year-old girl in 2020 appeared in court on Friday for a sentencing hearing. David Michael Moss was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Bella Rose Desrosiers over a year ago and now faces an automatic life sentence. The Crown is seeking to impose a period of parole ineligibility ranging from 20 to 22 years.

During the trial, Moss’s defense of not being criminally responsible (NCR) for the killing was rejected by the court. Evidence was presented that Moss stabbed Bella to death with scissors in her bedroom in front of her mother and younger sister in May 2020. It was revealed that Moss had been experiencing delusions and believed he was ascending to another realm. He admitted to killing Bella but claimed to have no recollection of the event.

The sentencing hearing is ongoing, with the defense expected to present its stance on an appropriate sentence for Moss. The outcome of the hearing will determine the length of time Moss will spend in prison before becoming eligible for parole.
