Relief from Scorching Heat as Western Disturbance Brings Rain and Hailstorms
Several Indian states, including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan, are set to witness a respite from the intense heatwave thanks to an approaching western disturbance. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by hailstorms in these regions over the next three days. The wet spell is anticipated to bring thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds to northwest India until May 12, East India until May 13, and Central and south Peninsular India until May 15.
The MeT has further issued forecasts of isolated hailstorms and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) over east Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Squally winds (50-60 kmph) may also occur over central Maharashtra and west Madhya Pradesh on May 13. The IMD attributes the recent reduction in heatwave conditions to the occurrence of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in various regions.
In Rajasthan, the respite from the heat is expected to continue until May 14 as the state is likely to experience continued rainfall and thunderstorms. Delhi and Himachal Pradesh have also reported improved weather conditions following recent rainfall and thunderstorms. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Shimla has issued a yellow alert for rain and hailstorms in five districts of Himachal Pradesh until May 13, including Kangra, Hamirpur, Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu. Temperatures in the state are also forecast to drop below normal levels.
Overall, the western disturbance is bringing much-needed relief from the scorching heat in several Indian states. The IMD’s predictions indicate that the wet spell will continue for the next few days, providing respite from the high temperatures.
