GSTC Attraction Criteria: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Attractions

The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) is dedicated to the development of sustainable tourism practices. As part of this mission, the GSTC is actively working on the creation of the GSTC Attraction Criteria. This set of standards is designed to guide tourist attractions toward sustainable practices. The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is collaborating with the GSTC in this endeavor.

The development of the GSTC Attraction Criteria commenced on September 1, 2023. A preparatory phase, involving the definition of Terms of Reference (TOR) and the formation of a Technical Team, preceded this. Simultaneously, the Attraction Criteria Development Advisory Group and the Key Stakeholder Group were established. The initial public consultation was launched on January 15th and continued for a period of 60 days.

Currently, the GSTC is inviting stakeholders within the tourism industry to participate in the Feasibility Assessment of the GSTC Attraction Criteria. This assessment period will remain open until June 7, 2024. Entities associated with attractions, including museums, amusement parks, and nature reserves, are strongly encouraged to meticulously review the Draft Criteria. The primary focus of this review should be to evaluate the relevance, measurability, and clarity of each criterion and indicator. Stakeholder involvement is crucial to ensure the criteria are robust and suitable for diverse environments.

GSTC recognizes the significance of this initiative and its potential to drive meaningful progress within the tourism industry. By actively participating in the review process, stakeholders can contribute their expertise and knowledge, shaping the future of sustainable tourist attractions worldwide.
