Impressive Growth at BER: Passenger Traffic, Aircraft Movements, and Air Freight Surge in April 2024

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) has reported impressive growth in passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and air freight in April 2024, indicating a strong recovery post-pandemic. Passenger traffic surged by 12.6% compared to April 2023, reaching 2.15 million, and aircraft movements increased by 14.1% to 16,689. The airport also witnessed a significant 55.8% increase in air freight, handling approximately 3,790 tonnes.

Compared to pre-pandemic levels in April 2019, passenger traffic has yet to fully recover, with the combined traffic at Tegel and Schönefeld airports standing at 3.1 million. However, the steady growth in passenger traffic and aircraft movements suggests that BER is on the path to regaining its pre-pandemic levels.

The increase in air freight is particularly noteworthy, demonstrating the airport’s growing role in cargo operations. This growth is attributed to the expansion of services and capacity at BER, making it an increasingly important hub for both passenger travel and cargo transportation.

As BER continues to expand and enhance its services, the upward trends in passenger traffic, aircraft movements, and air freight are expected to continue. This underscores the airport’s vital role in the region’s transportation infrastructure and its contribution to the local economy.
