Ravindra Jadeja’s Controversial ‘Obstructing the Field’ Dismissal in CSK vs. RR Clash
In a bizarre turn of events during the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Chepauk Stadium, Ravindra Jadeja became the victim of an ‘obstructing the field’ dismissal. It was a rare sight in the IPL, leaving both players and fans alike perplexed.
The incident unfolded in the 16th over when Jadeja, facing a delivery from RR’s Obed McCoy, flicked the ball towards the third man and set off for a single. However, there was some miscommunication between Jadeja and his skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, regarding the possibility of converting the single into a double. As a result, Jadeja had to turn back from halfway down the pitch.
As Jadeja turned back to return to the bowler’s end, he found himself in the path of RR captain Sanju Samson, who was holding the ball and preparing to throw at the stumps. The throw from Samson struck Jadeja, who was adjudged to have obstructed the field. The decision was referred to the third umpire, who upheld the on-field call.
Jadeja was visibly miffed by the decision, expressing his displeasure as he walked back to the pavilion. He had a brief exchange with the on-field umpire before leaving the field. This dismissal marked only the third time in IPL history that a player has been given out for obstructing the field.
Despite the controversial dismissal, CSK managed to secure a crucial five-wicket victory over RR. Skipper Gaikwad led from the front, scoring an unbeaten 42 off 41 deliveries to guide his team to victory. Earlier, Simarjeet Singh was the pick of the CSK bowlers, claiming three wickets for 26 runs.
The ‘obstructing the field’ dismissal has sparked debate and discussion among cricket enthusiasts. Some have defended Jadeja’s actions, arguing that he was not intentionally trying to obstruct Samson’s throw.
