Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Kick Off Final Leg of Nigeria Trip with Charity Polo Event

In their final leg of the Nigeria tour, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrived at the Lagos Polo Club to support Nigeria Unconquered, a Nigerian-based charity organization working alongside the Invictus Games Foundation.

Despite her previous wardrobe choices that incorporated vibrant colors in honor of her Nigerian roots, Markle opted for a more neutral and elegant look, adorning a cream-shade halter-style dress by Johanna Ortiz. She accessorized with Burberry sandals and Heidi Merrick “Santa Barbara” sunglasses.

Before their appearance at the polo club, the Sussexes made a brief stop at the governor’s residence. Upon their arrival at the club, the couple observed a pre-game parade featuring young children dressed in polo attire and carrying the Nigerian flag.

The Duchess’ team emerged victorious with a 5-3 score against the Duke’s lineup, setting the stage for the main event. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle then took the opportunity to present medals to the players. The Duke, who holds a deep affinity for the sport, delivered a heartfelt speech to conclude the ceremony.

In April, Archewell Productions, co-founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, announced the production of a Netflix series focused on professional polo, providing viewers with exclusive access to this captivating world. The Duke has long been an avid polo player, participating in numerous charity events, a passion he shares with estranged members of the royal family.

Prince Harry’s connection to polo has also fostered a close friendship with Nacho Figueras, often referred to as the “David Beckham of polo.” The duo has frequently teamed up for charity matches, resulting in a friendship extended to their wives. Figueras’ wife, Delfina Blaquier, and Meghan Markle have previously referred to each other as “polo wives” on social media.

The presence of Harry and Meghan at the polo club primarily served to support Nigeria Unconquered, a charity dedicated to assisting Nigerian servicemen and women who have sustained injuries in combat. The charity utilizes the power of sports to promote recovery and rehabilitation.
