LSG Coach Defends Sanjiv Goenka’s Outburst on KL Rahul, Denies Rumors of Non-Retention
Lucknow Super Giants assistant coach Lance Klusener has attempted to downplay the controversy surrounding franchise owner Sanjiv Goenka’s public outburst on skipper KL Rahul following their heavy defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
A video of the incident, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows Goenka engaging in an animated conversation with Rahul, prompting criticism from fans and pundits alike.
However, Klusener has dismissed the notion that the incident is a cause for concern, describing it as a ‘robust discussion between two cricket lovers’. He believes such discussions are essential for team improvement.
Klusener also addressed rumors that LSG may not retain Rahul for the next season. He categorically denied these reports, stating that there have been ‘certainly no discussions around’ the matter.
Despite his continued support for Rahul, Klusener acknowledged the wicketkeeper-batter’s struggles in the ongoing IPL season, which have contributed to his omission from India’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
He attributed Rahul’s underwhelming performances to the team’s batting unit’s inability to provide a stable platform. Klusener believes that Rahul has been forced to play a more cautious role due to the frequent loss of wickets at the other end.
Nevertheless, Klusener remains confident in Rahul’s ability to deliver a match-winning performance in the remaining matches, which are crucial for LSG’s playoff hopes. He expressed optimism that Rahul will regain his form and contribute significantly to the team’s success.
