Tacoma Public Schools, committed to student-athlete safety, engaged Hellas to install Matrix Helix synthetic turf with shock pads and Elia Renufill infill on multiple fields. Hellas also installed two tracks, enhancing athletic amenities across the district. Fawcett Elementary concluded its inaugural season on the multi-purpose football and soccer fields, benefiting from Elia Renufill infill’s ability to lower surface temperatures by 20 degrees compared to crumb rubber. Extracted from olive trees, Elia Renufill offers a sustainable and safe infill solution. Helix Technology’s twisted monofilament fibers prevent infill displacement and reinforce turf fibers for quick recovery. Tacoma’s Lincoln Abes utilized the new Matrix Helix turf with SoteriaMax shock pads, providing consistent ball response and impact absorption. District Executive Director of Planning and Construction praised the turf’s superiority, citing its widespread adoption by professional and collegiate teams nationwide. Hellas’ Vice President of West Coast & Pacific Northwest Region emphasized the strategic partnership that prioritized safety and cost-efficiency. In 2024, Hellas will install Matrix Helix turf at Hilltop Heritage Middle School and Peck Athletic Complex, further enhancing Tacoma’s athletic facilities. Hellas, the industry leader in sports surfaces, has completed numerous K-12 and collegiate projects, as well as facilities for renowned professional football teams. Tacoma Public Schools encompasses 36 elementary schools, 13 middle schools, 11 high schools, and 4 early learning centers, serving approximately 28,000 students and employing nearly 5,000 staff members.
