BJP Sets 400-Seat Target in Lok Sabha Elections
In a bid to retain Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a third term, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has set an ambitious target of winning over 400 seats in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP has formed alliances with regional parties in several states to contest the polls, including the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra, the Janata Dal (United) in Bihar, and the Asom Gana Parishad in Assam.
The party will face stiff competition from the Indian National Congress, its traditional rival, as well as other regional parties such as the Aam Aadmi Party, the Trinamool Congress, and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
Key Battlegrounds
Some of the key battleground states in the Lok Sabha elections include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra.
In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP is facing a challenge from the Samajwadi Party, which has formed an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal.
In Bihar, the BJP is allied with the Janata Dal (United), while the main opposition alliance consists of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress, and the Left parties.
In Maharashtra, the BJP is in a three-way contest with the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction) and the Congress-led Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance.
Polling Schedule
The Lok Sabha elections are being held in seven phases, with the first phase on April 19 and the last phase on June 1. The results will be announced on June 4.
The outcome of the elections will have a significant impact on the political landscape of India, and it remains to be seen whether the BJP can achieve its ambitious target of winning over 400 seats.
