Following post-election violence in Andhra Pradesh, the Election Commission of India has taken a firm stance. As a result, officials in numerous districts across the state conducted security assessments at strongrooms where EVMs are kept. District Collectors and Superintendents of Police emphasized the need for heightened vigilance and strict adherence to security protocols at these locations.
Vijayawada Police Commissioner P.H.D. Ramakrishna and NTR district Joint Collector P. Sampath Kumar conducted an inspection of security at Nova and Nimra Colleges, where EVMs are securely stored. Commissioner Ramakrishna stated that a comprehensive three-tier security system has been implemented at the strongrooms.
In Eluru district, Collector V. Prasanna Venkatesh and Superintendent of Police D. Mary Prasanthi visited the strongroom at C.R.R. Engineering College, instructing personnel to maintain round-the-clock alertness. In West Godavari district, Collector Sumit Kumar and Superintendent of Police Ajitha Vajendla inspected security arrangements at strongrooms located in Vishnu and S.R.K.R. Engineering Colleges in Bhimavaram. The SP emphasized the strict enforcement of Section 144 at these locations and warned of severe consequences for any violations.
Prakasam district Collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar has also ordered police personnel deployed at the strongroom to remain on high alert, ensuring the safety and security of the EVMs.
