Helicopter Carrying Iranian President Raisi Suffers ‘Hard Landing’

A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi experienced a ‘hard landing’ in the East Azerbaijan province on Sunday, according to Iranian state media. State TV reported the incident near Jolfa, a city on the border with Azerbaijan, approximately 600 kilometers northwest of Tehran. While the state TV did not provide further details, one local government official described the event as a ‘crash’. Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian was also aboard the helicopter. The incident occurred as Raisi was traveling through the province. Rescuers were hampered in reaching the scene due to adverse weather conditions, including heavy rains, fog, and wind, which may have contributed to the ‘hard landing’. It is unclear if Raisi or any other passengers sustained injuries. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
