NYC-Dublin Portal Reopens with New Guidelines
The iconic NYC-Dublin portal, which debuted on May 8th, has reopened after a brief closure due to a string of unsettling incidents. The portal, a live public art installation, had to be closed shortly after its launch due to inappropriate behavior displayed by users.
To address these issues, the Dublin City Council and the Flatiron NoMad Partnership have implemented several new guidelines for the portal’s reopening. The most significant change is the addition of a time limit, with the portal now only operating from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Other changes include the installation of fencing surrounding the access point and additional signs and spacing decals to encourage interaction among passersby and residents of the other city. Large security cameras have also been installed in the Big Apple for continuous monitoring, while the Dublin side of the portal will incorporate physical design features to handle crowd management.
If visitors or interactors attempt to get too close or obstruct the camera in any way, the screens on both sides will blur. The organizers of the portal have stated that they will continue to make updates as needed to ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy the portal without any further disruptions or inappropriate behavior.
