Delhi High Court to Deliver Verdict on Manish Sisodia’s Bail Pleas in Excise Policy Case

The Delhi High Court will deliver its judgment on Tuesday regarding the bail petitions submitted by former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in connection with the excise policy case being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

A bench led by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma had previously reserved its order on Sisodia’s bail pleas in both matters. The Rouse Avenue Court had earlier dismissed Sisodia’s bail petitions twice, stating that it was not inclined to grant him bail at that stage. The court extended his judicial custody until May 30.

The special judge, Kaveri Baweja, extended Sisodia’s custody after he appeared before the court via video conference upon the expiration of his previous judicial custody. Sisodia has been in custody since his arrest by the CBI on February 26, 2023, and was subsequently arrested by the ED.

The ED and the CBI have alleged irregularities in the modification of the excise policy, including the granting of undue favors to license holders, the waiving or reduction of license fees, and the extension of the L-1 license without proper authorization. The probe agencies claim that the beneficiaries diverted illegal gains to the accused officials and made false entries in their books of account to avoid detection.
