The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening. The storm will be named Remal and will impact Bangladesh and the adjoining West Bengal coasts.
The cyclonic system is expected to concentrate into a depression over the central Bay of Bengal by Friday morning. It will further intensify into a cyclonic storm on Saturday morning and reach Bangladesh and the adjoining West Bengal coast as a severe cyclonic storm by Sunday evening.
Remal is the first pre-monsoon cyclone in the Bay of Bengal. The IMD has advised people in the affected areas to take necessary precautions and follow safety guidelines.
