The investigation into the Pune Porsche crash has taken a complex turn, with allegations of family members attempting to obstruct justice. The 17-year-old driver’s mother is now accused of requesting the family driver to take the blame for the accident, in addition to the teenager’s father and grandfather who were previously arrested. The teenager’s grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, was detained for the illegal confinement of the driver and remanded in police custody until May 28th. The teenager’s father, Vishal Agarwal, is already in judicial custody for another case connected to the May 19th accident and has also been named in the First Information Report. Immediately after the incident, the driver gave a statement to Yerawada police claiming to be the one behind the wheel. However, subsequent information revealed that the teenager’s father, a realtor, and his grandfather whisked away the teenager to their bungalow and confiscated his phone, confining him there. Senior police officials stated that the driver was pressured to give a statement to the police as directed by the Agarwals, with threats and offers of money to falsely admit to driving the Porsche at the time of the crash. The Agarwal family allegedly offered to pay the driver “any amount he quoted,” and his wife arrived the following day to free him from their custody. The police noted that the driver was frightened and that his statement was subsequently recorded on Thursday, May 23rd. After corroborating the facts, a case was registered against the teenager’s father and grandfather based on the driver’s complaint. The driver has maintained his innocence, denying that he was driving the car when it struck two IT professionals on a motorbike in Kalyani Nagar during the early hours of May 19th. Police officials have assured that the driver and his family will receive police protection.
