The Cainiao Smart Gateway, a joint venture led by Alibaba’s subsidiary Cainiao Network, has been operational since September 2023. Its advanced automated equipment aims to elevate logistics efficiency and is projected to boost HKIA’s cargo volume by 1.7 million tonnes per year. As a key component of HKIA’s strategy to become an e-commerce hub, this facility reinforces its position in the region.
11 SKIES, spearheaded by New World Development, will be the focal point of the SKYCITY complex at HKIA. This 3,800,000 sq. ft. development will house over 800 retail stores and feature the largest indoor entertainment center in Hong Kong, spanning 570,000 sq. ft., establishing itself as a one-stop retail and entertainment destination.
Mr. So expressed his optimism about these projects, saying, “Cainiao Smart Gateway and 11 SKIES will propel our airport to new heights. Cainiao’s facility will harness the growing cross-boundary e-commerce sector and solidify our position as the regional e-commerce hub. 11 SKIES, on the other hand, will transform HKIA into a tourist attraction, drawing visitors from the Greater Bay Area and key Asian markets, providing a fresh impetus for economic growth.”
These developments underscore HKIA’s commitment to innovation and growth, cementing its position as a leading international aviation hub and a vibrant tourism destination.
