Cardiff Bay Railway Station, one of Wales’ oldest stations, has historically been among the least connected in the UK. However, that is about to change as part of a £1bn investment to improve the rail network in Cardiff and the south Wales valleys.
From Sunday, trains from Cardiff Bay will not only go to Cardiff Queen Street but also to seven other stations. This new service includes stops at Radyr and Llandaf stations.
The expansion of Cardiff Bay Railway Station is part of a larger plan to enhance transportation in the region. A new station is being built in Butetown, and the station will be connected to Cardiff’s new £100m on-street tram service. Construction for the tram service is set to begin next summer and is expected to be completed in under five years.
The ultimate goal is to link the city center with the planned £250m indoor arena in the bay and a new Cardiff Parkway station on the east of the city. The improvements to Cardiff Bay Railway Station are expected to significantly improve connectivity and accessibility for the people of Cardiff and the surrounding areas.
