WestJet Flight Returns After Unruly Passenger Consumes Illegal Substance

A WestJet flight bound for Calgary from Terrace, British Columbia, was forced to return to the airport shortly after takeoff due to an unruly passenger. The incident occurred at noon on Monday, with the plane returning to Terrace Regional Airport not long after takeoff. According to the Terrace RCMP, the passenger had been disruptive, failing to remain in his seat during takeoff, showing signs of paranoia, and attempting to open the exits.

Upon the plane’s return, police officers boarded and arrested the man for causing a disturbance. He was taken into custody and apprehended under the Mental Health Act due to his apparent experience of a mental health crisis. The man was then transported to a local hospital for assessment.

According to police, other passengers had assisted in restraining the man until the plane landed. No injuries were reported during the incident.

WestJet has stated that it has a zero-tolerance approach to any disruptive or unruly behavior that could impact the safety and security of its passengers, employees, and operations. The airline also commended the cabin crew for their handling of the situation and apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
