In a thrilling game that came down to the wire, the Moose Jaw Warriors emerged victorious, defeating the Drummondville Voltigeurs 5-4 to advance to the Memorial Cup semifinals. The Warriors started strong, scoring the first goal in the first period through Vojtech Port. Brayden Yager and Denton Mateychuk added to their lead in the second period, giving Moose Jaw a seemingly comfortable 3-0 advantage.
However, the Voltigeurs refused to give up. They fought back with three goals in quick succession, coming within inches of tying the game. Alexis Gendron’s goal at 3:13 of the third period leveled the score at 3-3, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish.
With time running out, the Warriors rallied. Aiden Ziprick’s shorthanded goal with just over two minutes remaining proved to be the turning point. Brayden Yager sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final seconds, sending the Warriors to the semifinals, where they will face the loser of Wednesday’s game between the Saginaw Spirit and London Knights.
