Flooding Near Lulu Mall in Kerala’s Edapally

Heavy rains and strong winds have hit many parts of Kerala on May 28th, disrupting daily activities. In Kochi, rainfall from early morning flooded many streets and roads, causing traffic to slow down on main roads. Severe flooding was also reported in the Kakkanad-Infopark and Aluva-Edappally areas, affecting day-to-day life in those regions. The city and rural parts of Thiruvananthapuram district have also been experiencing heavy rainfall since the previous night. A viral video on Instagram posted by the user “bangalore_malayalees” on May 28th has garnered over 1.5 million views. The video shows roads near Lulu Mall in Edapally submerged in rainwater. The footage reveals that water levels are below the knee, but the flooding has still caused significant traffic delays. The adjacent roads and parking spots of the mall are also visible under the water. Several users on social media have criticized the drainage system, with one sarcastically referring to the Kerala chief minister’s ambitions as “Pinarayi’s New York road.” Another user commented, “This is Cochin Corporation’s road washing machine.” However, one user on Reddit pointed out that the flooding cleared up within a couple of hours. “Amazingly enough, this cleared up within a couple of hours. By afternoon, there was no water on the road,” the user wrote. Another user replied, “I agree .. that is impressive.”
