Fines for Washing Cars Amid Water Crisis in Delhi
In a bid to address the acute water crisis facing Delhi, the city’s Education Minister, Atishi, has announced that fines will be imposed on individuals found washing their cars with pipes or overflowing water tanks. This measure is part of a broader crackdown on water wastage and illegal water connections.
The minister has also directed the Delhi Jal Board to disconnect illegal water connections at construction sites and commercial establishments, as well as prohibit the use of domestic water supply for construction or commercial purposes. These measures are aimed at conserving water amidst an intense heat wave and Haryana’s failure to release Delhi’s share of water.
To enforce these measures, the Delhi Jal Board has deployed 200 teams which will be deployed from 8 AM on May 30th to monitor water usage and impose fines of 2,000 rupees on violators. The teams will also disconnect illegal water connections on construction sites or commercial establishments.
This announcement has sparked reactions on social media, with some users questioning the extent of the restrictions and others expressing support for the measures. The Delhi Jal Board has emphasized the need to crack down on water misuse and ensure that water is conserved during this critical period.
