Delhi Scorches with Record-breaking Heat: Mungeshpur Records 52.9 Degrees Celsius

Delhi’s Mungeshpur locality experienced an unprecedented heatwave on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to a record-breaking 52.9 degrees Celsius. This extreme heat triggered concerns and disbelief, leading Union Minister Kiren Rijiju to question the accuracy of the reading.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has launched an investigation into the data, as the Mungeshpur weather station’s temperature appears to be an outlier compared to other stations in the city. IMD officials have stated that the discrepancy could be due to an error in the sensor or local factors.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Delhi continues to swelter in a severe heatwave. The IMD has issued a red alert health notice for the capital, warning of a very high likelihood of heat-related illnesses and heat strokes for all individuals, particularly vulnerable populations like the elderly and children.

The intense heatwave underscores the importance of taking precautionary measures and seeking medical attention if experiencing heat-related symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, or confusion. Delhi residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and seek refuge in air-conditioned areas during the hottest hours of the day.
