Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) continues to soar as a top choice for air travelers, maintaining its impressive growth trajectory. According to recent data from the U.S. DOT, RDU emerged as the fastest-growing major airport in the United States, with a remarkable 22% increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year. This notable achievement propelled RDU to the top of the ranking among the Top 50 airports nationwide.
In 2023, RDU set a new record for passenger traffic, further cementing its position as a major hub for travelers. The airport welcomed four new airlines, including Breeze Airways and Frontier Airlines, and expanded its route network by introducing 25 new destinations, such as Ábrego, Columbia; Cozumel, Mexico; and Kingston, Jamaica. Additionally, RDU added 49 new routes, providing passengers with more options for both domestic and international travel.
Looking ahead, RDU is poised to further enhance its global connectivity by adding three new international destinations in 2024, bringing its total to 10. This expansion marks the most international destinations the airport has ever served, solidifying its role as a gateway to the world.
