The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised concerns over alleged electoral malpractices in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district. In a letter addressed to the West Bengal chief electoral officer, BJP leader Shishir Bajoria has accused booth agents of being driven out, CCTV cameras being improperly positioned, and voters facing obstruction in reaching the polling booths.
The party has requested a repoll in several booths across assembly segments such as Budge Budge, Falta, Maheshtala, Diamond Harbour, Bishnupur, Satgachia, and Metiabruz. These allegations come amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal, where nine seats went to polls in the seventh and final phase on Saturday, recording a voter turnout of 73.79%.
The BJP’s candidate for the Diamond Harbour constituency is Abhijit Das (Bobby), while the incumbent Member of Parliament from the Trinamool Congress, Abhishek Banerjee, is seeking reelection. The Election Commission will review the BJP’s allegations and decide whether to order a repoll in the affected booths.
