CBSE Detects Significant Variation in Theory and Practical Marks Using AI

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has identified a concerning trend of significant variation between theory and practical marks in certain subjects among 50% or more students. This discovery was made through the implementation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) tools, which analyzed data from past years’ result statistics. Approximately 500 schools affiliated with CBSE have been flagged for these variations, underscoring the need for meticulous assessment during practical examinations in schools.

To address this issue, the board has swiftly issued an advisory to the affected schools, urging them to thoroughly review their internal assessment procedures. CBSE secretary Himanshu Gupta emphasized that this variance highlights the importance of meticulous assessment during practical examinations and the need to establish a stronger, clearer, and more dependable system to ensure that the evaluation process is authentic and contributes significantly to the student’s educational experience.

Meanwhile, this year, the results for the CBSE Class 10 and 12 exams were declared on May 13, showcasing a rise in the pass rate by 0.65% compared to the previous year. Girls outperformed boys by a margin of over 6.40%, with over 91% of girls passing the exam, while the pass rate for boys was 85.12%. In total, 2095467 candidates appeared for the CBSE Class 10 exams, with a pass percentage of 93.60%.

Currently, the board has opened the List of Candidate (LOC) registration window for schools to apply for at parikshasangam.cbse.gov.in/ps/. According to the CBSE notification, schools must submit the LOC information on the Pariksha Sangam portal by June 15, 2024.
