Hillary Clinton has compared former President Donald Trump to Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler, warning that democracy is at stake in the upcoming presidential election.
In a social media post marking the 80th anniversary of the D-Day operation, Clinton implied that Trump is a threat to democracy similar to Hitler’s Third Reich. She wrote, ‘Eighty years ago today, thousands of brave Americans fought to protect democracy on the shores of Normandy. This November, all we have to do is vote.’
Clinton’s comments come as incumbent President Joe Biden seeks re-election after consistently attacking Trump as a threat to democracy. Biden has accused Trump of inciting the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot and supporting voter suppression efforts.
The Trump campaign dismissed Clinton’s claims, calling her a ‘stone-cold loser’ and accusing her of trying to stay relevant. However, Biden continues to lead Trump in issue polling for the presidential election, with voters saying they trust Biden more on topics of election integrity, preserving democracy, and ensuring fair elections.
Despite facing criticism, Trump remains a popular figure among Republicans and has maintained a strong lead in the GOP primary polls. The upcoming presidential election will be a crucial test of whether voters believe that Trump poses a threat to democracy or not.
