The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain, thunderstorms, and dust storms in Delhi-NCR on Friday, June 6. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 43 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will be around 28 degrees Celsius. A strong dust storm hit several parts of the region overnight.
The change in weather is attributed to a western disturbance. The IMD forecasts partly cloudy skies, dust storms, and thunderstorms over the next few days. Isolated hailstorm is also possible in West Rajasthan on June 7.
Clear skies with gusty winds are expected on June 9, while partly cloudy skies with strong surface winds are forecast from June 10 to June 12. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 43 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The IMD has also issued a heatwave warning for parts of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, East Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha from June 8 to June 10.
The Centre has stressed the need for states to be better prepared to meet challenges related to heat waves and forest fires, ensure no loss of life, and minimize damage.
