Prepare to conquer your gaming hours with the upcoming release of Sid Meier’s Civilization VII. Developer Firaxis Games unveiled the latest installment in this iconic turn-based 4X strategy franchise during the Summer Game Fest.
While the cinematic teaser does not offer any in-game glimpses, it tantalizes us with majestic world leaders and landmarks, from the enigmatic Great Sphinx of Giza to the revered U.S. President Abraham Lincoln. A more comprehensive reveal is scheduled for August, and the game will grace PC and consoles at launch, which is currently projected for sometime in 2025.
This announcement was hardly a shock. Sharp-eyed users on Reddit and Resetera spotted a banner for Civilization 7 on the 2K homepage earlier on the day of the reveal. The banner was swiftly removed, but screenshots preserved its existence. 2K had also teased a major announcement at Summer Game Fest, hinting at the next game in one of its most cherished franchises.
The long-awaited arrival of Civilization VII comes seven years after the release of Civilization VI in 2016. However, Civilization VI has enjoyed robust support since its launch, with mobile ports, a Switch version, and a slew of major updates and expansions.
Take-Two Interactive confirmed Civilization 7’s development in 2023, with Heather Hazer taking the helm as the new studio head at Firaxis Games. Josh Solomon, the creative director of Marvel’s Midnight Suns, will also depart from the studio. Ed Beach, who led the design of Civilization 6, will play a key role in this upcoming game.
