Supreme Court Issues Notices on NEET-UG Malpractice Petitions, Stays Proceedings in High Courts

The Supreme Court of India took significant action on Thursday regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG). The court issued notices on 14 petitions filed by various individuals and organizations challenging alleged malpractices in the conduct of the NEET-UG exam. These petitions highlight concerns regarding irregularities and unfairness in the exam process.

In a separate development, the Supreme Court also issued notice to the Central government and the National Testing Agency (NTA) on a petition filed by a group of students who appeared for the NEET-UG exam in Meghalaya. These students claim that they lost 45 minutes due to unforeseen circumstances during the exam and are requesting to be included in the group of 1563 students who received grace marks and were given the option to appear for a re-exam on June 23rd.

Adding to the legal proceedings, the Supreme Court issued notices to parties on pleas filed by the NTA seeking the transfer of petitions related to the NEET-UG controversy from various High Courts to the apex court. This move aims to consolidate all related cases under the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction.

The court further stayed the proceedings before the High Courts in all cases related to NEET-UG, effectively halting any further action by the High Courts until the Supreme Court makes its decision. This decision underscores the Supreme Court’s intention to address the controversy comprehensively and ensure a fair and transparent resolution.

The Supreme Court has posted all these pleas for hearing on July 8th. This upcoming hearing is crucial as it will determine the future course of action regarding the NEET-UG exam and the allegations of malpractice. The court’s decision will have a significant impact on the future of the exam and the aspirations of countless students aspiring to pursue medical education in India.
