The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a schedule of bank holidays for June 2023, impacting the operations of both private and public sector banks throughout the country. According to the RBI’s holiday calendar, all banks will be closed on national holidays, regional state holidays, every Sunday, and the second and fourth Saturdays of each month.
Customers are advised to check the status of bank branch operations before visiting on any specific Saturday, as branches are typically closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. Notably, June 22nd has been confirmed as a bank holiday as it falls on the fourth Saturday of the month.
In June, several cities will observe bank holidays on different dates. For example, banks will be closed in Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Dehradun, Guwahati, Hyderabad (both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana), Imphal, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Panaji, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Thiruvananthapuram on June 24th.
Additionally, Chandigarh will have bank holidays on June 1st, 10th, and 18th. Shimla will observe holidays on June 1st and 18th. Bhubaneswar will have holidays on June 10th and 17th, while Jammu will see closures on June 10th and 18th. Srinagar will also observe bank holidays on June 10th and 18th. Finally, Aizawl will have a holiday on June 15th.
While physical bank branches may be closed on these holiday dates, customers can still access a range of financial and non-financial services through mobile and net banking platforms. Services like RTGS, NEFT, and IMPS remain accessible for fund transfers. Additionally, cash withdrawals can be made at ATMs, and bill payments for utilities such as gas and electricity can be processed using bank accounts even during bank holidays.
