Paramount+ is once again raising its prices, marking the second increase in a year. The ad-supported Paramount+ Essential tier will see a $2 bump to $8 per month for new subscribers, while the ad-free Paramount+ with Showtime will cost $13 per month, representing a $1 increase. Existing subscribers will have a bit longer, with the price changes taking effect in September.
The new pricing reflects a trend across the streaming industry, with many platforms adjusting their pricing strategies in response to market conditions and content acquisition costs. Paramount+ boasts a diverse library of content, including popular franchises like Star Trek, exclusive originals such as ‘Mayor of Kingstown’, live sports, and premium Showtime programming. Its integration with CBS provides access to a vast on-demand catalog.
However, the streaming service has also faced challenges, including its parent company Paramount’s ongoing search for a buyer. Despite the uncertainty, Paramount+ continues to grow its subscriber base, reporting 71.2 million subscribers globally and adding 3.7 million in the first quarter of 2024.
Despite the price hike, Paramount+ remains widely accessible on a variety of platforms, including Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, Google TV, smart TVs, and web browsers. This widespread availability ensures that users can easily access the streaming service regardless of their preferred device.
