United States international defender Sergino Dest has made his move to PSV Eindhoven permanent after a successful loan spell from Barcelona. The 23-year-old played a key role in PSV’s Eredivisie title triumph in the 2023-24 season, making 25 appearances and scoring twice. However, his season was cut short in April when he suffered an ACL tear, requiring surgery and ruling him out of the U.S. squad for the Copa America.
Despite the injury, PSV has decided to secure Dest’s services on a permanent basis. The club announced the transfer on Saturday, highlighting Dest’s positive impact during his loan period.
“Sergino is rehabilitating and will not join group training for the next few months,” PSV stated in a press release.
Dest expressed his gratitude towards PSV for their support during his recovery. “The club is incredibly warm, like I’ve never experienced anywhere before,” he said. “Those are important aspects for someone in my situation and give me confidence that I can rehabilitate well here.”
Dest’s move to PSV marks a significant step in his career. He joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2020 but struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. His loan spell at PSV proved successful, showcasing his talent and potential. The move to Eindhoven will provide him with a stable environment to continue his development and recovery from his injury.
